West Ham United scout Monaco centre-back Axel Disasi, Tottenham also in pursuit

West Ham United have been scouting AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi ahead of a potential January move, according to Dean Jones.

The 24-year-old has been impressing for the Ligue 1 side having already made nearly 200 senior club appearances and he even made his debut for France at the World Cup in Qatar when he came on against Tunisia.

The Irons have been mightily impressed by him this season but Monaco are only likely to let him go for £43million, according to RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins.

Along with the hammers, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are ready to make it a London battle in the January transfer window with all clubs looking to strengthen their defence.

“Axel Disasi is another player to look out for,” jones said to Give Me Sport. “He plays as a defender for Monaco and has been scouted by the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham, sources say.”

Too much

Central defence is a problem area for West Ham at the moment and it does need to be addressed in the January transfer window with Craig Dawson’s future in the balance.

But £43million is a huge amount of money to spend on one player and they have already splashed more than that on Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Paqueta this season.

West Ham

Financial Fair Play might end up coming into question if they continue to flaunt their wealth in such a way and the last thing the Irons need is the authorities keeping a close eye on their every move.

Kurt Zouma has his injury problems, as does Angelo Ogbonna, and suddenly David Moyes is left with just Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer.

So he definitely needs another body at the back but there is no point in spending a huge amount of money when there are much better value-for-money options available with just a tiny bit of digging around.
