West Ham United: Richard Keys calls out David Moyes after what he did

Richard Keys claims he was “disappointed” in David Moyes’ reaction after Wolves were controversially denied a late equaliser against West Ham.

Moyes’ side came from behind to win 2-1 at Molineux on Saturday (6 April), but it was not without some late controversy.

Max Kilman’s last-gasp equaliser was ruled out after an on-field VAR review determined that Lukasz Fabianski’s vision was blocked by a player standing in an offside position, an incredibly controversial decision which has prompted a response from the Wolves chairman, Jeff Shi.

And Keys believes that Moyes should have come out in support of Gary O’Neil.

Writing via his website (8 April), Keys said, “I’ve got to admit I was a little disappointed in David Moyes’ reaction. His team have suffered a succession of bad calls recently – including one at Molineux. They too had a perfectly good goal disallowed, so why didn’t Moyes come out in support of Gary O’Neil and his team?

“He had nothing to lose. The game was over. It was a win/win for him had he backed O’Neil.

“The only way we’ll reign these refs in is if we pressure them together. Looking at that decision in the round would’ve been far more productive of Moyes.”

West Ham and David Moyes got away with one against Wolves

Even the most loyal West Ham supporters would likely be the first to admit that they were fortunate against Wolves.

It was a goal which should have never been ruled out. No matter who was in his way, Fabianski was never getting across to the ball, and it is yet another example of a high-profile referring error in the Premier League this season.

A lot of those errors have been in matches involving West Ham and Wolves, and Keys is right to suggest that Moyes should have perhaps called the mistake out.

While that is not his job, and he will just be focused on the three points and building toward a UEFA Europa League showdown with Bayer Leverkusen, it does undermine his credibility going forward.

The next time a decision goes against West Ham and Moyes complains, O’Neil will likely have a little chuckle to himself and question where that energy was on this occasion.
