West Ham United receive letter from Manchester City after Premier League developments

Manchester City’s general counsel Simon Cliff has sent a letter to the other 19 Premier League clubs including West Ham United, according to The Times.

The newspaper reported via its website [8 October] that the Hammers were sent a dismantling of the statement signed by Richard Masters, over the legal dispute on commercial deals.

It added: “Cliff has described the summary of the panel’s award as “not correct” and warns of further legal disputes if clubs bow to pressure to make some swift amendments to the rules on Associated Party Transactions (APT).”

The Times said there is set to be an “emergency meeting” of all 20 Premier League clubs next week.

West Ham were reportedly one of the teams to have given evidence against City in their legal case against the Premier League [Daily Mail, 7 October].

The Hammers were alongside a group of clubs that included the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool to try and help back the league’s case.

If we’re all being truthful, these legal disputes are over the heads of the average supporter and most are absolutely fed up of seeing battles take place in the courtroom.

Football is a simple game, the discussions should be about events on the pitch, but instead the narratives right now are being dominated by what is happening off it.

Hopefully there can be some swifter resolutions to the off-field arguments and attentions can once again be turned to discussing the issues we actually want to discuss around football.

For West Ham, that mainly revolves around putting some consistency together to improve their league standing after the international break.
