West Ham United Premier League position predicted by supercomputer, top six favourites named
West Ham United are expected to finish 10th in the Premier League this season, according to Opta’s supercomputer.
The statistics website reported on Monday (12 August) that the Hammers are expected to slip one place down the table under Julen Lopetegui, despite a summer of heavy spending in the transfer market.
Across 10,000 simulations of the season, the Irons finished with an average points total of 49.1, more than 14 points clear of the relegation zone but over nine adrift of sixth-placed Manchester United.
Lopetegui’s side does have a 2.1 per cent chance of booking a place in the Champions League and in 3.1 per cent of simulations the Hammers managed to qualify for the Europa League instead, but there is also a 4.9 per cent chance they will be relegated.
The current top six favourites are expected to be Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Manchester United with Tottenham in seventh place.
Will West Ham United qualify for Europe under Julen Lopetegui?
This is going to be a season of transition under Lopetegui for the Hammers, but there will be an expectation that the former Real Madrid manager will improve on David Moyes’ work at the London Stadium.
The squad that will take to the field under the Spaniard will likely bear very little resemblance to the one that featured in Moyes’ last game, with several new faces arriving in East London for big-money fees.
West Ham have upgraded their attacking options with Niclas Fullkrug and Crysencio Summerville, their midfield with Guido Rodriguez and now even their backline is stronger with Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo.
Lopetegui cannot afford to be anywhere near the relegation zone this term otherwise the pressure will mount on him quickly. Hopefully, the Irons will prove this prediction wrong and put up a better fight for the European places.
