West Ham United Premier League position predicted by supercomputer after Aston Villa loss
West Ham United have been predicted to finish in mid-table after the 2-1 loss to Aston Villa, according to Opta Analyst.
The Analyst’s supercomputer has predicted [19 August] the Hammers to finish thirteenth in the Premier League this season after the opening day defeat on Saturday (17 August).
Julen Lopetegui ended his first match in charge at the London Stadium in defeat despite the backing of Tim Steidten and David Sullivan in the transfer window this summer.
West Ham have been blessed with an influx of talent in East London and will now be expected to finish in the European spots this season.
The latest update from the supercomputer following the results from the opening weekend of the 2024/25 season predicts the Irons to average 46 points in the league, 11 points behind Aston Villa in eighth.
They stand a 0.72 per cent chance of a top-four finish and a 1.29 per cent of qualifying for the Europa League.
Lopetegui’s side have dropped three places from the original tenth-place prediction and saw their European chances slashed from a 2.1 per cent chance of top four and a 21.2 per cent of qualifying for Europe [Opta Analyst, 13 August].
West Ham tipped for mid-table finish in Premier League
If the data is anything to go by, West Ham are set for a disappointing season in the Premier League this term.
It is safe to say that Lopetegui will be at risk of losing his job in East London if the prediction becomes a reality, with his side now expected to push for a finish in the top eight after a busy summer transfer window.
The Hammers faced a tough test in Aston Villa, against whom only two of their new recruits started the match – Guido Rodriguez and Max Kilman.
With the Europa Conference League triumph in 2023 still fresh in the minds of the supporters, they will be expecting their side to secure a return to European football this season. Lopetegui will therefore be under increasing pressure the more that dream fades from being fulfilled.

The side is operating under a new manager with a host of new players, and they will not transform their fortunes overnight. It will take time to adapt and correct the results on the pitch.
On paper, West Ham have a squad brimming with a mix of proven talent and potential that could become a serious problem to their Premier League rivals once the wheels are in motion.
There will undoubtedly be more twists and turns to the story throughout the season, but starting life in East London with a loss is far from ideal for Lopetegui.
Once the side clicks, though, expect those supercomputer predictions to soar as they climb the Premier League table.
