Andy Irving set for West Ham United chance amid Rush Green development

Andy Irving, the Scottish midfielder signed by West Ham United last year, has finally joined first-team training at Rush Green after being away for nearly a year.

Irving spent last season on loan at SK Austria Klagenfurt upon signing for West Ham in a surprise deal in the 2023 summer transfer window.

The Scotsman was pictured alongside Danny Ings and Aaron Cresswell, as shared by the club’s official website [3 July], during Julen Lopetegui’s first training session as Hammers manager.

This could mark a fresh start for Irving, who made zero appearances under David Moyes, with Lopetegui looking to assess all options ahead of the new season and potentially integrate fringe players into his plans.

The 24-year-old also recently suggested that he’s still hoping to play a key role for the Hammers next season [Hammers News].

Andy Irving is expecting to get a chance at West Ham United

Irving will be hoping that he can prove himself to Lopetegui during pre-season, as he fights for his first West Ham appearance.

He has managed to show his playmaking abilities out on loan in Austria and will be determined to show those skills again in East London.

Irving will also be encouraged by the fact that Lopetegui is aiming to revitalise the squad ahead of the upcoming season and has hinted at giving the previously overlooked players a chance to prove themselves.

The midfielder’s return, therefore, marks a fresh opportunity to impress after a successful stint abroad.

And, despite speculation swirling about further squad additions, Irving will remain focused on making an impact in the next six weeks, as he is eager to show his worth.

As pre-season progresses, all eyes will be on whether Irving can translate his potential into consistent top-flight performances for the Hammers.

In other West Ham news, the club have made a decision on the chase for Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo.
