West Ham United plan new contacts with agent of Paulo Fonseca at end of season to replace David Moyes as manager

West Ham have made contact with the agent of Paulo Fonseca and planned talks for the end of the season as they look to replace David Moyes as manager.

The Scot is expected to leave the club at the end of the season, despite his contract ending in 2024, after the club flirted with relegation all season in the Premier League.

And according to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna (21 April), their interest in Lille boss Fonseca has been confirmed with talks set for the end of the season with his agent Marco Abreu.

“Confirmed West Ham interest in Paulo Fonseca,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (21 April).

“Hammers want him for next season. His agent, Marco Abreu, has been approached and a new contact is planned at the end of the season.

“Paulo Fonseca is focused with Lille at the moment.”

Deja vu

Fonseca has interviewed for the job at West Ham before and it didn’t go his way, so it would be very interesting to see what has changed for him and for the board in that time.

Ultimately Moyes has done a good job for the Hammers as a club in his time here. He took us away from relegation and battling for Europe and we’re now in a European semi-final for a second consecutive season.

However, our domestic form over the last 18 months cannot be ignored and it’s clear that the team have somewhat stopped responding to his methods.

A change is the right decision, but Fonseca being the man that the club are targeting to replace him is a bit odd considering the likes of Graham Potter and Brendan Rodgers are available.

It obviously wouldn’t be easy, but we should be trying our damnedest to convince them to come instead of moving on so swiftly or not trying at all. We don’t want another Pellegrini type appointment.
