West Ham United on red alert to sign Rodrigo Becao in new transfer push

West Ham United are on red alert for Udinese centre-back Rodrigo Becao as a number of clubs monitor the Brazilian, according to Tuttoudinese.

The 26-year-old is out of contract at the Serie A club in the summer of 2024 and is understood to be available for £17.3 million as the Italians push for a renewal.

The Hammers are joined by Premier League rivals Everton in showing an interest in the defender as well as Italian giants Inter Milan (TuttoUdinese, 22 November).

It’s believed Udinese have made contact with Becao over extending his contract at the Dacia Arena.

With Craig Dawson looking likely to depart West Ham in January, a move for Becao does make sense for David Moyes. Claret and Hugh reported (17 November) that Dawson is almost “certain” to leave the London Stadium, with the former Watford defender making no secret of his desire to move back up north and closer to his family.

Most fans will wish Dawson well and understand his decision, with his minutes taking a hit this season due to Thilo Kehrer and Nayef Aguerd arriving at the club. Becao would be an ideal replacement for Dawson, with the Brazilian a longer-term project for the Hammers.

A central defender could also be key with Angelo Ogbonna also in the latter stages of his career and seeing his time at the London Stadium come to a gradual end. Moyes made some excellent defensive additions in the summer, but if it will be important for the Scot to maintain strength in depth and signing Becao would certainly add that.
