Hayden Mullins stunned live on Sky Sports by ‘world class’ moment in West Ham United v Olympiacos

Hayden Mullins was left stunned by a “world class” pass from James Ward-Prowse in the Europa League clash between West Ham and Olympiacos.

Ward-Prowse delivered the assist for Paqueta’s 73rd-minute strike in Thursday’s (9 November) contest at the London Stadium, with that proving to be the only goal in a 1-0 home win.

The central midfielder sent a lofted pass over the top of the Olympiacos defence for Paqueta to convert with a first-time finish – the goal allowed to stand after initially being ruled out for offside.

Describing the goal on Sky Sports News, as relayed by their live blog [9 November, 21:39], Mullins said: “The goal is a fantastic goal. The pass from James Ward-Prowse is world class.

“To lift it over them with a bit of back-spin… It was some goal to open up the game.”

Magical

In a game that – let’s face it – lacked any real drama and quality, this was undoubtedly the stand-out moment at the London Stadium

Ward-Prowse was a good 40 yards from goal when lifting the ball back into the opposition box into a perfect zone for Paqueta to blast home.

It was a great bit of vision from the Englishman on the day he was left out of Gareth Southgate’s latest squad for the Three Lions’ upcoming games.

West Ham

In truth, though, Paqueta’s finish was arguably even more impressive than the pass itself as he watched it all the way and connected brilliantly.

The officials initially adjudged the Brazil international was offside, but VAR thankfully intervened to ensure the moment of magic stood.

Ward-Prowse may well have been looking to send out a message to Southgate, and it is fair to say he achieved exactly that against Olympiacos with this pass alone.
