West Ham United not yet in talks to sign Luis Suarez – Fabrizio Romano
West Ham United have not yet made any contact to try and sign Luis Suarez on a free transfer, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Uruguayan journalist Nacho Saldombide reported on 18 July via his personal Twitter account that it was “almost certain” that the 35-year-old would be a Hammers player this season.
But Romano has not heard anything of the like and believes that there has not even been talks between the two parties after his release from Atletico Madrid at the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

“So far, I have no confirmation on a West Ham proposal for Luis Suarez but with free agents, things can change in a few hours,” Romano said to Caught Offside.
“For now, the club is busy with the Armando Broja deal, but are waiting for a response from Chelsea. They also haven’t ruled out a move for Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca.
“Suarez still has many proposals from South America, including Nacional, but he continues to give priority to Europe. He left Atletico Madrid on a free this summer, but I think he still has something to offer at this level.”
Left-field
Suarez was perhaps not a name that was expected to be linked with West Ham this summer or ever in fact but maybe his arrival wouldn’t be the worst thing if it happens.
Even at 35 years of age, the Uruguayan can still claim to be one of the most influential players in the world on his day even if it comes around less frequently than it did in his prime.

Being a Champions League winner with Barcelona, there is not much better pedigree that David Moyes would be able to get his hands on this summer and he doesn’t necessarily have to play every single game either if Broja, Scamacca or both also arrive.
The biggest stumbling block would of course be what wages he demands having spent the majority of his career at the very top clubs earning mega bucks to bang goals in for fun.
To be fair to him, he’s done exactly that with over 400 career goals in some of the world’s biggest competitions and his European knowledge might be exactly what West Ham need to succeed in the Conference League and reach the next level.
