West Ham United ‘not happy’ with Wolves after £2.5m Aaron Cresswell bid, £5m will seal deal

West Ham are “not happy” with the £2.5million opening bid from Wolves for defender Aaron Cresswell, according to The Guardian.

The newspaper reported on their website on Wednesday (19 July) that the Hammers are expected to demand £5million for the left-back.

Cresswell joined the East London outfit from Championship club Ipswich Town in 2014, and has 331 West Ham appearances to his name.

“West Ham are open to selling Cresswell, who joined from Ipswich in 2014, but are not happy with an opening bid of £2.5m from Wolves and are expected to demand about £5m,” according to The Guardian.

Time to move on?

Cresswell has been a superb servant to West Ham, with the defender sticking with the club through thick and thin.

But at 33, the East London club may now be thinking about letting the veteran go as they look for younger talent to fill in at left-back.

He could undoubtedly still do a job in defence when required, but perhaps David Moyes wants a fresh start in various areas this season as the club look to compete in the Premier League and in Europe.

The £5million fee isn’t huge in the grand scheme of things, but it would definitely help in the club’s search for a new left-back, with plenty of money also available from the £105million sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal.

West Ham are definitely in the driving seat here, and they have every right to push the price up for Cresswell as high as possible, as it would be foolish to let a useful squad player leave for just £2.5million.

In other West Ham news, the winner has been named in the £25million Hammers and Wolves race to seal a first-team signing this summer.
