West Ham United ‘not giving up’ on James Ward-Prowse, compromise needed to secure deal – Sky Sports

West Ham are “not giving up” on their pursuit of Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse, according to Sky Sports.

The publication reported on its website on Monday (7 August) that a compromise is likely needed for any deal to be done this summer.

The Hammers have already had a £30million bid rejected for the 28-year-old midfielder, Sky Sports added.

Tough times

West Ham fans really are being pushed to the limit in their pursuit of a Declan Rice replacement in the summer transfer window.

Their beloved former captain left for Arsenal seemingly a lifetime ago, with the England international having already secured a trophy with his new club after helping them defeat Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday (6 August).

It will be near-impossible for the Hammers to sign a perfect replacement, but fellow England international Ward-Prowse is a superb candidate.

He should be available on the cheap this summer following Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League, but the south coast side are refusing to let their star men go for below their worth.

That has made things tough for the Hammers, but they have been handed an extra barrier in the signature of Ward-Prowse given how they themselves held out for £105million for Rice.

Although it will be a much smaller fee than Rice’s, the Saints hold all the cards when it comes to the final sum that they can get from West Ham for their own captain this summer.
