West Ham United sources speak out amid Tim Steidten to Liverpool reports
West Ham are “worried” that technical director Tim Steidten could leave if Liverpool make an official approach, according to the Daily Mail.
Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg reported on Wednesday (31 January) that Steidten is a candidate to become Liverpool’s next sporting director.
In an update shared by the Daily Mail‘s online edition [31 January], it is claimed via sources close to the club that Steidten is not entirely happy at London Stadium and could be tempted by a move elsewhere.
“David Moyes and Steidten started on the wrong foot but have patched up relations,” the report reads.
“Nevertheless, the sporting director believes he should have more control at the club and sources have suggested he is not entirely settled yet.
“But West Ham are now worried that Steidten could leave if Liverpool come calling.”
Concerning news
Steidten has played a big part since coming on board at West Ham, having already helped to finalise deals for Kalvin Phillips, James Ward-Prowse and Mohammed Kudus.
When you also factor in the eye-catching signings he made during his time with Bayer Leverkusen, it is little wonder he is on the radar of Liverpool.
The initial report via Plettenberg suggested Steidten was happy at West Ham, but this new report claims the opposite is true.
A team’s technical director – or sporting director, whichever term you want to use – is almost as important as a manager these days.

Keeping hold of Steidten is hugely important, so the Irons must ensure they knock back any approaches that are made.
If Steidten is feeling unsettled in London, it is difficult to see how that would change in Liverpool, so maybe it is a return to Germany he is pining for?
Ultimately, if that is the case then someone’s personal life always comes first. For now, let’s just hope he can be persuaded to stay on board.
In other West Ham news, United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign an “incredible” France international.
