West Ham United news: FA could land David Moyes in hot water after Liverpool incident

West Ham United boss David Moyes could be in “hot water’ with the FA following his comments toward the officials in Wednesday’s Premier League defeat to Liverpool, as reported by the Evening Standard.

In the 1-2 loss at the London Stadium, the Scotsman accused the VAR of lacking “football knowledge” in what was the Hammers first defeat in six games.

Moyes was livid at the decision not to award a penalty in his side’s favour after the ball appeared to hit Thiago Alcantara’s arm as he slid to challenge Danny Ings.

The West Ham gaffer was furious over the call, as was clearly evident in his comments after the game.

“I think it’s a penalty kick,” Moyes stated.

“I think the hardest thing to take is the disrespect from VAR, that VAR wouldn’t have at least said to the referee that this might be worth having a look. That tells me they don’t see that as even close to a decision. I’m surprised.

“Somebody in VAR didn’t have enough football knowledge to understand that this could be close.”

Fine margins, strong reactions

If the Irons were sitting in 11th place in the league table, there wouldn’t have been as much of a fuss made over the refusal to revisit the penalty claim.

This was a chance to make up further ground in the battle to avoid the drop and a spot-kick to secure a precious point was taken away, that will be the view of many from a West Ham perspective.

Another six points should be enough to ensure Premier League survival for the club but the next stage of the campaign will be a daunting one with Crystal Palace (away), followed by the visit to Manchester City then Manchester United come to east London.

The FA will now seek further clarity from Moyes on his remarks before making a decision on a potential improper conduct charge.

Things are often said in the heat of the moment so hopefully, that will be taken into account otherwise losing the manager from the dugout during a crucial period, will be a blow.
