West Ham United injury news as Pablo Fornals update emerges ahead of Sheffield United clash
West Ham United could be boosted by the return of Pablo Fornals for Sunday’s clash against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, according to Ben Dinnery.
The injury expert shared on his Premier League injuries Twitter account (20 January) that the Spaniard is expected to return for Sunday’s game after missing the FA Cup third-round replay defeat against Bristol City with a foot injury.
Fornals’ return status has been put at 50 per cent by Dinnery in a potential boost for the Hammers who are currently without Lucas Paqueta and Michail Antonio while David Moyes refused to share whether Jarrod Bowen will be available for Sunday’s game.
Must step up
With Lucas Paqueta ruled out for up to two months, Michail Antonio facing yet another injury setback, and Mohammed Kudus taking part in the Africa Cup of Nations, West Ham are in dire need of attacking inspiration right now.
Fears over the potential severity of Bowen’s blow were high given the swelling around his ankle as he limped off in the 1-1 draw with Bristol City at the London Stadium, but news that he could now return as soon as 21 January (The Evening Standard, 16 January) will have been a huge boost to the Hammers.
However, whether he will be ready enough to start the game at Bramall Lane or even feature is another matter entirely so it will certainly be a critical decision for Moyes to take, especially with the importance of Sunday’s encounter.
The Hammers need their fringe stars to step up if they are to pick up a crucial three points against the Blades and Fornals who has endured a tough campaign on the fringes of the squad will feel it’s his chance to stake a claim.
With his contract running out this summer, the Spaniard could well be leaving the London Stadium soon enough but will be short of takers if he doesn’t perform at his best.

That motivation alone could do West Ham the world of good as they look to improve their Premier League position in the coming weeks, starting on Sunday.
