West Ham United: New Premier League FFP regulations could be in place for summer transfer window

West Ham could be set for a boost ahead of the summer transfer window for FFP rules set to change after Everton and Nottingham Forest were charged.

Everton were docked ten points for a breach earlier in the season and have since been charged for a second time, alongside Nottingham Forest, for a second breach related to profit and sustainability rules.

But after a record-low transfer window in January were clubs were restricted in their spending, clubs are now set to meet according to iNews (6 February) to discuss changing the rules ahead of the summer.

“Although there is still plenty about the new regulations to be ironed out – with uncertainty over how spending on academies and infrastructure will come into the PSR equation, for example – i understands it is possible they will be introduced in time for the summer transfer window.”

West Ham to be boosted

The profit and sustainability rules that have come into serious effect in recent saw everyone struggle in the January transfer window, and West Ham were a part of that too.

David Moyes was able to bring in Kalvin Phillips on loan but a buy-clause couldn’t be agreed upon because of the FFP rules and where the club’s finances currently sit.

They were also unable to sign a new striker or forward player in the window and were ultimately forced into accepting late deals for Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals in order to boost the balance ahead of the summer.

With David Moyes looking likely to stick around beyond this season and into a new contract he will need cash to start rebuilding the squad to improve, and these rule changes will no doubt go some way towards helping him do that.

It’s no shock that the Premier League are acting after such a dull window, and clubs’ concerns have been listened to. Hopefully that will mean a busier summer and better players coming into the squad.
