West Ham United must invest to keep Jarrod Bowen – Bobby Zamora

David Moyes could have a difficult task on his hands to keep Jarrod Bowen at West Ham United for the future after his England call-up.

The 25-year-old was the Irons’ standout performer in the 2021-22 campaign, providing more goal contributions than any other player in claret and blue and that form caught Gareth Southgate’s eye.

There could be some summer interest in Bowen though and former Hammers striker Bobby Zamora thinks the club needs to invest now to try and keep him at the London Stadium for the long term.

“You don’t want to leave a club where you’ve had amazing experiences and the club are heading in the right direction,” Zamora said to the Express.

“The club can prove to you, as a player, that they are going to improve and get a stronger squad. Then, being a part of that journey is something you want. It’s down to the club because they want to keep those players and push on.

“David Moyes will want to recruit well, as he has done over the last couple of years. It’s down to the club to prove that he doesn’t need to go elsewhere, you’ve achieved European football with us and it’s something we want on a regular basis.”

Any interest in Bowen is flattering to himself, the club’s coaching staff and the entire club as all of these factors, as well as a lot of external things too, have moulded him into the top-quality player he now is.

But this summer is not the time for him to be moving clubs having only had one stellar season in the big time.

To be a player of genuine world-class ability, you have to be able to produce the kind of numbers he’s done this season over two, three of four campaigns and then the big teams may come calling.

There is no guarantee he would go to one of the top two or three teams in the country and be an instant starter and he may never get to that stage so while he is settled and happy at West Ham, there is just no logic to him leaving and having to readjust to life elsewhere.

In other West Ham news, Ryan Fredericks was one of four senior players released by the club and he’s since reacted to the news on Twitter.
