West Ham United: Michail Antonio shares injury update on social media after recent London Stadium setback

West Ham United striker Michail Antonio has shared a seven-word update on social media as he steps up his recovery after a recent Rush Green injury blow.

The Telegraph reported via their website on 6 January that the Jamaican international suffered another injury setback after a slip in training, ruling him out for the rest of the month.

The senior Hammers star will now be kept out for a further two to three weeks after he was inching closer to a return from almost two months on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Taking to his personal Instagram account to share an encouraging message to the West Ham fans (14 January), Antonio posted: “Smashing through the setback. Visualising the comeback.”

Tough spot

West Ham United are currently facing an attacking crisis right now following fresh blows to Antonio, Jarrod Bowen and Paqueta which will surely have to force David Moyes and technical director Tim Steidten into doing business in the January transfer window.

Both Bowen and Paqueta are out for up to a month while Antonio will face the next six weeks out handing Moyes a huge blow ahead of a tough run of fixtures over the next few weeks.

West Ham

The Hammers do have several fall-back options in the squad in Danny Ings, Said Benrahma, Pablo Fornals and Maxwel Cornet but none can be relied upon to deliver after their disappointing cameo appearances this season.

With the transfer window open, and a striker reportedly top of the Hammers’ list of priorities, this new blow will only make their chances of landing a new forward in the window stronger, with their need for reinforcements clear.

Antonio had scored just two goals in 12 Premier League appearances so far this season so some fans can argue that he hasn’t been missed but given the lack of options right now, his presence and leadership will have been incredibly crucial right now.
