West Ham media officer responds to Jesse Lingard injury reports from The Sun
West Ham United fans will have been biting their nails on Saturday as Jesse Lingard was forced off in the 3-2 defeat against Newcastle.
After the clash, the Sun reported that the England international could have dented the Irons’ Champions League hopes and his own opportunity to feature at the EUROs.
The Hammers media officer, Ben Campbell has fired back at those claims and appeared to confirm that it was only cramp that Lingard had.
Writing on his personal Twitter account after the 3-2 defeat, Campbell hit back at the tabloid for their lacklustre reports.
“In other words, it was cramp,” he said.
And Breathe.
There would be no bigger blow than losing Lingard for one of our biggest ends to a Premier League season in many years.
No player has scored more goals than the Manchester United loanee since his debut at the London Stadium, with nine goals and three assists to his name.
With Michail Antonio struggling for fitness during this important time and no other senior striker at the club, this newfound form in that false-nine role will be critical.
Chelsea are the next to arrive at the London Stadium next Saturday, and after resting today, Lingard should be back training tomorrow.
Thankfully, we haven’t been left biting our nails all week in the build-up, and Campbell’s latest update gives us confidence that Lingard will be available and ready to go in this huge London derby.
