West Ham United may intensify Manchester United ace Harry Maguire pursuit amid update on ex-Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos

West Ham could now return to the negotiation table with Manchester United as former Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos reportedly fails his medical.

Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna reported on Monday (21 August) that the Greek centre-back was not able to complete his medical.

This then put his move to the London Stadium in jeopardy as he’s carrying a back injury.

Aouna wrote on Twitter, “Konstantinos Mavropanos move from Stuttgart to West Ham could collapsed after center back failed medical. Deal agreed between clubs but tests showed injury problems & Greek international could finally not sign to WH.”

This puts the Hammers in a predicament and that could lead to them making a move for Maguire once again this summer.

David Moyes clearly admires him and has gone on record to confirm that a bid had been submitted for the 30-year-old England international.

He’s not just liked by Moyes but Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola also praised him and wanted to sign him before he ended up going to Old Trafford.

The Englishman’s stock was at an all-time high before he moved to Manchester United and had he not taken that move, he perhaps could’ve been one of the best players in the league.

Guardiola said in 2019, per Sky Sports, “We were interested, but we could not afford it. United afford it. He’s an excellent player, national team too, he had an incredible World Cup.”

He’s undoubtedly a better option than Mavropanos and would strengthen this Hammers defence a great deal so this a move worth considering.

In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open on leaving his side this summer.
