West Ham United manager update as David Moyes reveals plans amid sack speculation

David Moyes is planning for next season at West Ham United despite there still being considerable pressure on his shoulders, according to The Mirror.

The Scot has enjoyed a positive week at the London Stadium after securing a draw with Arsenal and beating Gent 4-1 to reach the Conference League semi-final (20 April).

The Mirror’s Darren Lewis relays (pg 7, 22 April) the 59-year-old is planning ahead to the 2023/24 campaign despite persistent calls for a change in the dugout.

The Guardian reported Wednesday (19 April) the Hammers are already lining up alternatives for the former Everton boss, with Lille’s Paulo Fonseca being considered by David Sullivan.

Tough call

The performances have certainly improved of late and if West Ham enjoy a successful end to the season which culminates in a piece of silverware, then a tough decision will have to be made. It would’ve taken time, but Moyes could have finally unearthed a successful way of playing.

The 59-year-old can only take each game as it comes. Saturday’s clash against Bournemouth is an excellent chance for the Hammers to put some daylight between themselves and the bottom three and finally ease their relegation concerns heading into the season’s final weeks.

Regardless of who is in the dugout come the start of next season, the squad will once again need some sort of surgery. There’s a strong chance Declan Rice departs in the summer and the talismanic midfielder will need replacing. Furthermore, there’s a chance veteran defenders Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell could well be on their way.

Whoever is in charge will once again need to be backed by the board.
