West Ham United: Manager should be questioned after ‘very strange’ James Ward-Prowse development – journalist
Paul Brown finds it “very strange” that West Ham star James Ward-Prowse has been pushed completely out of the national team picture by Gareth Southgate.
Speaking to GiveMeSport on Tuesday (14 November), the former Daily Star journalist said he doesn’t believe the latest snub for the 29-year-old is a “wise move” by the England manager.
He added that the Hammers midfielder is in the best form he’s been in for “some time” and that it’s definitely a decision Southgate should be “questioned on”.

“I honestly find it very strange that Ward-Prowse is suddenly out of the England picture completely,” said Brown. “He was being picked regularly ahead of some very strong candidates for a very long time when you could argue that he was in nowhere near the kind of form that he is now.
“I really don’t think that it’s a wise move by the England manager. I think he’s in the best form I’ve seen him in for some time, and it doesn’t strike me as terribly fair that he’s no longer getting a look in. I think it’s definitely one that Gareth Southgate should be questioned on.”
Makes no sense
It doesn’t really make any sense why Ward-Prowse has been continuously left out of the recent England squads despite his impressive form.
The midfielder has been excellent since signing for West Ham from Southampton over the summer, having registered two goals and nine assists in 16 appearances.
That form is significantly better than some of the players he is competing for a place in the side with, making his omission even more baffling.

Southgate has also handed a number of players their first call-ups for the upcoming matches against Malta and North Macedonia, so it isn’t as though he isn’t prepared to give people a chance.
It’s unclear what he has to do to earn a recall to the international setup, but there is no doubt that he will keep working hard for us and hope that proves to be enough to catch the England manager’s eye.
In other West Ham news, a talkSPORT broadcaster has told the club to sack Moyes in the next few days.
