West Ham United make Julen Lopetegui sack decision as contact made

West Ham United have told Julen Lopetegui that he could be fired if results do not improve, according to The Times.

The newspaper reported via its website on 3 November that this is the second time the Irons have sent a warning to the Spaniard after a similar message followed the first three games of the season.

There is still confidence that the head coach can turn things around at the London Stadium, but there is growing pressure on him to deliver a good result against Everton at home on Saturday (9 November).

Meanwhile, Edin Terzic, who has been without a job since leaving Borussia Dortmund in the summer, has been mooted as a potential candidate to replace the former Sevilla boss.

Julen Lopetegui running out of time at West Ham United

The Hammers hoped for big things when they hired Lopetegui to replace David Moyes ahead of the season, backing him with a net spend of £90million and eight new signings.

However, they now find themselves sitting fourteenth in the table after 10 games, with just six points separating them from the relegation zone, which is unacceptable for a team aiming for European qualification.

Lopetegui is, therefore, quickly running out of time in East London, especially with Terzic available and prioritising a move to the Premier League (Sami Mokbel).

There are suggestions that a defeat against Everton this weekend might not be the last nail in the coffin for the 58-year-old yet (Jacob Steinberg), but there is increasing pressure on him to deliver results.

Lopetegui, though, seemingly expects to be in the job for a significant amount of time as he is targeting a new striker in January, as Niclas Fullkrug’s fitness concerns continue.

In other West Ham news, a big-money transfer update involving Lucas Paqueta has emerged and it is not good news.
