West Ham United make decision in hunt to hire Paulo Fonseca after Ruben Amorim blow

West Ham United are set to step up their chase to appoint a replacement for David Moyes after being rejected by Ruben Amorim, according to HITC.

Writing on their website (23 April), the news outlet report that the Portuguese coach held talks with the Hammers in London on Monday 22 April but it is unlikely the will take over this summer.

That has led to the club looking at alternative options, with Paulo Fonseca among the candidates being considered for the role with his agent confirming that there is interest from the London Stadium.

“Paulo is very respected by the leadership at West Ham, and an option to replace David Moyes if and when he leaves,” he told HITC in a statement.

“There has been no contact with him. Paulo is focused on Lille until the end of the season.”

The Irons have been tipped to have been on the edge with Moyes’ future for a while now, but it seems a decision has finally been made.

Fabrizio Romano says the feeling is now that Moyes will “definitely” leave, with a number of options mooted to be considered to come in and replace him.

Fonseca is someone who has great pedigree having won nine trophies in his career and is doing very well in Ligue 1 currently with Lille. His attacking style has previously seen him close to becoming Tottenham and Leeds manager according to HITC, which sums up how highly he is thought of.

But alongside Fonseca there is talk of managers like Julen Lopetegui and even Thomas Tuchel being considered too, so David Sullivan is clearly not trying too hard to get a deal done quickly.

Moyes is safe until the season is over and his contract expires which gives the club time to assess their options and make the right choice, but Fonseca is certainly in their thinking.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have made an offer to Amorim that was “considerably higher” than Liverpool’s.
