West Ham United make approach to sign Ajax star Edson Alvarez, talks underway – ExWHUemployee
Talks are underway as West Ham have approached Ajax with an enquiry about midfielder Edson Alvarez, according to ExWHUemployee.
Ex added that the Hammers face competition for the Mexican’s services, with Borussia Dortmund among those interested.
The reported interest comes as Arsenal move a step closer to clinching a record £92million signing of current West Ham midfielder Declan Rice [The Telegraph, 8 June].

“I can exclusively reveal that the player from the Americas that I said on the podcast that we had begun enquiries with is Edson Alvarez of Ajax,” Ex wrote on his Patreon.
“Talks have been going on for over a week and he is seen as a good replacement for Declan Rice although we do face a lot of competition for the player including from Dortmund.”

Go for it
West Ham look increasingly likely of needing a top, top midfielder for next season amid the impending exit of current star man Rice.
The Hammers captain has given his all for the club for several years, and fortunately helped his team to Europa Conference League silverware, but he seems destined to head for pastures new this summer.
The East London outfit will, therefore, need to act swiftly and smartly in order to find the best player possible, with a like-for-like replacement impossible given Rice’s world-class displays over the years.
But Ajax ace Alvarez is not a bad option whatsoever, with the Mexican international currently starring for Eredivisie outfit Ajax.
At 25, he is just one year older than Rice, and could become a top Premier League player for many years to come, with his former Ajax teammate Lisandro Martinez labelling him “fantastic” [Voetbal International, 27 July, 2022].
Unfortunately, such is his talent, the midfielder looks certain to be chased by other top clubs across Europe this summer, including German giants Dortmund.
