West Ham United-linked Martin Terrier compared to Thierry Henry by Sky Sports pundit

David Moyes really wants a new attacker at West Ham United to freshen things up and he is making plenty of moves to make it happen.

Most recently, L’Equipe reported on 17 July that the Irons are going head to head with Premier League rivals Leeds United for the signature of Stade Rennes wonder Martin Terrier.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a sensational 2021-22 campaign, scoring 21 goals in Ligue 1 (third only to Kylian Mbappe and Wissam Ben Yedder) and European football writer Tom Williams has lavished the Frenchman in praise.

West Ham

“Last season was the best season of his career by some distance,” Williams said on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast. “He had never previously got into double figures in Ligue 1 but last season he scored 21 goals, third only to Kylian Mbappe and Wissam Ben Yedder.

“He’s a very quick, left-sided right-footed attacking player who’s trademark is coming in off the left flank and whipping shots in, a-la Thierry Henry.

“Looking at his age and the phenomenal season he had last season, he will probably think that if he is ever going to make a big move to the Premier League, it’s probably going to be now or never.

“If a club are prepared to meet Rennes’ asking price then Terrier would probably back himself because he will likely struggle to match the numbers he put up last season with Rennes.”

Amazing

If Moyes could dream up his perfect left-sided attacker to complete his squad, Terrier might just be who he would end up describing.

West Ham

He has very similar attributes to Jarrod Bowen on the opposite flank and we all saw how good he was last season so if he could get anywhere near the Englishman’s level that would be tremendous – provided he joins us and not Leeds.

Especially if we were to bring in either Armando Broja or Gianluca Scamacca (or both) to play up front either alongside or challenging Michail Antonio, we can forget the attacking department because we will struggle to find any better than that.

A front three of Bowen and Terrier on either side with Scamacca, in particular, through the middle is almost good enough to rival the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea for Champions League places and having Declan Rice in midfield certainly helps too.

West Ham only need one more year of building towards something before we will be actual challengers for the top four on a regular basis and make it a ‘big-seven’ rather than a ‘big-six’.
