West Ham United-linked Konstantinos Mavropanos ‘attracted’ by move to London Stadium

West Ham are in advanced talks with Stuttgart over a move for Konstantinos Mavropanos, according to the Daily Mail.

The publication reported on its website on Thursday (17 August) that the defender is “attracted” by the prospect of the switch.

The interest in the former Arsenal man comes as West Ham’s pursuit of Harry Maguire stalled, the publication added.

“The Hammers are in advanced talks with Stuttgart over former Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos,” according to the Daily Mail.

“The Stuttgart defender has also had interest from Eintracht Frankfurt, Wolves and Nottingham Forest this summer but is attracted by the prospect of a return to London under David Moyes.

Time running out

West Ham are clearly in the market for a central defender this summer, with the club now able to focus on that area after finally bringing in replacements for Declan Rice.

Not one but two replacements were needed for the former Hammers captain, with Edson Alvarez arriving from Ajax, before James Ward-Prowse was brought in from Southampton.

The East London outfit have the likes of Nayef Aguerd, Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna to call upon at the back this season, but the trio won’t be enough if the club are to successfully compete on all fronts.

It will certainly be another battle in the Premier League, while things will be stepped up in Europe, with the Hammers now competing in the Europa League after winning the Europa Conference League last season.

Moyes has seemingly missed out on Manchester United man Maguire, and it definitely makes sense to focus on other targets given how the season has already started and, more importantly, the transfer window is rapidly running to a close.

In other West Ham news, an international manager has shared a “disappointed” verdict about a “very good” Hammers player.
