West Ham United: Kurt Zouma talk in dressing room emerges v Tottenham
West Ham defender Kurt Zouma had a message for his teammates before the 1-1 draw with Tottenham on April 2, as reported in The Athletic.
The Hammers captain reinforced a message of togetherness in the squad despite a poor run of form and led from the front with a first-half equaliser at the London Stadium.
Having blown a 3-1 lead to lose 4-3 to Newcastle in their last match, Spurs’ early opener could have caused West Ham heads to drop, but Zouma’s equaliser secured the point which keeps them 7th in the Premier League table.
In their post-match report, the Athletic said “(Zouma) reminded his team-mates pre-match on Tuesday of the harmony within the group and the need to stick together. His words had the desired effect.”
Hammers overcome tough week to keep pace in European race
It’s safe to say that West Ham wilted on March 30 against Newcastle, conceding three times in the final 13 minutes to lose 4-3 in chaotic circumstances at St. James’ Park.
Brennan Johnson’s tap-in just five minutes into their next match was the sign of an unwanted hangover from that defeat, but Zouma popping up to head home from a corner minutes later was exactly the response needed from David Moyes’ side.

With wide men Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus ever-dangerous out wide in a deserved draw for the hosts, it’s clear to see that Zouma’s leadership both on and off the pitch has resonated for West Ham.
The Irons’ inconsistent form this season has seen them win just twice in 2024, but after holding their own against one of the league’s leading sides, players like Zouma will be key to getting West Ham’s season back on track.
It’s time to move forward.
