West Ham United keen on January transfer for Roberto Firmino, face Premier League competition

West Ham United are one of three Premier League clubs keen on signing Roberto Firmino during the January transfer window, according to HITC.

The outlet reported on its website on Thursday (4 January) that the Hammers are one of a number of English teams eager to sign the 31-year-old if he were to be made available only six months after joining Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahil.

David Moyes’ side are set to face competition from Marco Silva’s Fulham and Crystal Palace as the Hammers are keeping an eye on the Brazilian’s current situation in the Middle East ahead of a potential move away.

Firmino is understood to be happy with his situation in Saudi Arabia, despite his limited game time this season, however, he would be open to a Premier League return should the opportunity become available this month.

Interesting opportunity

West Ham need forward options during the January transfer window and while Firmino is by no means the prolific centre-forward most supporters would have hoped for, he does present an interesting option for Moyes in this transfer window.

The Brazilian won everything there was to win during his time at Anfield with Liverpool and was part of one of the most dangerous front threes that the division has ever seen. However, that was a fair while ago and Firmino isn’t the same player as he was then.

But Firmino’s ability to create space for the attackers around him could suit the Irons’ style perfectly as he could become the creative force between both Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen as he did under Jurgen Klopp with Sadio Mane and Mohammed Salah.

It remains to be seen whether this develops any further than just reported interest over the course of the next month, but there is a chance that Firmino could go a long way to solving Moyes’ striker problem at the London Stadium.
