West Ham United: Journalist shares what Anton Ferdinand and Marlon Harewood did v Aston Villa

Anton Ferdinand and Marlon Harewood gave impassioned speeches to rev up the West Ham fans ahead of the game against Aston Villa on Sunday (17 March), according to Jacob Tanswell.

The Athletic journalist tweeted on Sunday that he didn’t believe the efforts from the former Hammers stars were “overly effective” in whipping up the crowd.

He added that the duo both predicted that the Irons would win by three goals against Villa, but that didn’t turn out to be the case as the two sides played out a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium.

“Anton Ferdinand and Marlon Harewood have been tasked with revving up the home crowd, both having to give impassioned speeches,” said Tanswell. “Both think West Ham will win by three goals. Not sure it was overly effective, if I’m honest.”

West Ham and Aston Villa draw a fair result

It was quite bold of Ferdinand and Harewood to predict West Ham to win by three goals after the form Villa have been in this season.

It probably came off the back of the Hammers beating Freiburg 5-0 on Thursday (14 March) in what was one of their best performances of the campaign.

Although Harewood obviously has more of an affiliation with the East Londoners, the Villans fans might not take too kindly to him predicting them to lose so heavily after he spent three years at Villa Park.

While David Moyes will be frustrated that two big VAR calls went against his side after goals had been awarded on-field, he will probably be fairly pleased with the draw.

After both sides had decent spells in the game, it was a fair result on the balance of play and shouldn’t do either team much harm in their pursuit of European football this season.
