Journalist waxes lyrical over West Ham United star Declan Rice in England win v Iran at World Cup
The Times journalist Henry Winter was left stunned by West Ham United man Declan Rice and his excellent England performance in the FIFA World Cup on Monday 21 November 2022.
Rice was one of a handful of standout performers in England’s 6-2 triumph over Iran in their World Cup opening fixture.
Winter confessed that Rice is “such an intelligent player” and admitted that the West Ham United star plays an important role for Gareth Southgate’s England side.
“Declan Rice playing such an important role, covering, keeping the shape, intercepting and redistributing. Such an intelligent player,” said Winter on Twitter.
Rice’s World Cup heroics will only inflate his rumoured price tag even higher, in a summer that could see a host of bids flying through the London Stadium for his services.
West Ham United face an uphill battle to keep Rice at the London Stadium past the 2022/2023 campaign.
Every Premier League juggernaut is being linked with a move for the classy midfielder and it’s hardly surprising given his recent performances.
The Hammers may have to bite the bullet on this one, it’s a shame but there is little the club can do to keep Rice if they fail to get European football.
It’s not all doom and gloom though, just think of the squad that could be built with the £100m+ earned from a Rice sale.
That’s a cash influx of epic proportions and with the Hammers’ current savvy recruiting system, they could reinvent the squad into an even greater force.
This is all hypothetical right now though and Rice has never confirmed his intentions to leave the club this summer, it just seems like an inevitable scenario at the moment.
