West Ham United join race to sign Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi

West Ham have joined the race to sign Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi, according to Calciomercato.

The 23-year-old midfielder holds the desire to play for AS Roma. The Serie A club will not keep players who do not want to stay.

Frattesi’s former teammate Gianluca Scamacca plays for the Hammers, and he could play a key role in convincing him to join the London club.

Scamacca key

Roma came close to signing their former player and they still retain their interest.

The Hammers are also in the mix, and the presence of Scamacca could be vital here.

The Italian striker joined the Hammers during the summer transfer window for a fee of £35.5m [Sky Sports], and he is gradually settling in at his new club.

After a slow start, Scamacca has now scored in three consecutive games and his confidence is overflowing at the moment.

Also, Roma would get 30% of the transfer fee for Frattesi due to a clause inserted in their contract, and this could work in favour of the Hammers.

The defensive midfielder has made nine Serie A appearances this season, scoring three goals.

The Hammers did sign a couple of players in the summer to bolster their midfield, but David Moyes could add another player if Tomas Soucek leaves the club.

Declan Rice is another player who could leave as well next summer. It remains to be seen if the Hammers come up with a formal move for him in the summer.
