West Ham United join race to sign Adrien Truffert from Rennes
West Ham have approached Rennes with an enquiry about left-back Adrien Truffert this summer, according to a report from L’Equipe.
The French newspaper reported on 7 June that the Hammers are likely to face competition from Premier League rivals Everton and Leicester City for his signature.
The 20-year-old left-back is an exciting talent who has cemented his position in the side, taking full advantage of the injury to Faitout Maouassa.
The Hammers do need to bolster their left-back area this summer.
Aaron Cresswell did well last season (2021/22), but he made some glaring errors in big games.
Similarly, the likes of Ryan Fredericks and Arthur Masuaku are likely to leave the club, which means a new signing in that position is required.
The question is – should David Moyes go after an in-experienced defender?
Truffert made 79 appearances in the last two seasons and his performances have been widely praised. But, he is still very raw, and it would be a big gamble to sign him.
L’Equipe add that the youngster wants to speak with the club hierarchy to understand what the future holds for him, and what the club plan for his development.
West Ham probably are just keeping tabs on him at the moment. He looks like a cracking prospect, and it remains to be seen if the club make any formal approach in the coming months.
In other West Ham news, a deal is on the cards to sign a forward who Moyes once compared to Wayne Rooney.
