West Ham United: Jamie O'Hara shares if Declan Rice would get into England 2006 squad
Jamie O’Hara has left Declan Rice out of his past or present England eleven as the West Ham captain gears up to face the USA in Qatar.
Rice has been an ever-present for the Three Lions in recent years and was an instrumental part of the team which reached the European Championship final in 2021.
However, O’Hara feels the 23-year-old wouldn’t get into a mixture of 2022 and 2006 England squads, with Steven Gerrard ahead of the West Ham man.
“Steven Gerrard [over Rice]. He would outrun you, he’d outfight you and he’d outclass you,” said O’Hara (talkSPORT EDGE, 24 November).
A squad which has Frank Lampard and Gerrard in its ranks is always going to be a tough nut to crack into for the West Ham man. Rice is an exceptional talent, but he hasn’t hit the heights set by his England predecessors just yet.
However, Rice has already achieved more than both Lampard and Gerrard did in an England shirt which is a promising sign for the West Ham star. David Moyes and the board will face another summer of speculation when it comes to the 23-year-old.
ExWHUemployee has suggested (24 November) the club could be forced into selling Rice should a “ridiculous” bid be submitted for the midfielder. With it now looking unlikely for the midfielder to sign a new deal, the board must decide whether they should cash in on the midfielder or let him see out the remaining years on his deal.
Fans should be prepared for a tense summer at the London Stadium
