West Ham United: Jamie O’Hara and Jason Cundy share David Moyes sack verdict live on talkSPORT

Jamie O’Hara and Jason Cundy have offered their verdict on whether or not David Moyes should be sacked by West Ham United, suggesting he deserves a new contract.

The Scotsman’s contract at the London Stadium is up at the end of the season with no apparent action being taken to extend his stay in East London, despite the Hammers progressing in the Europa League and impressing in the Premier League.

West Ham’s fanbase seems slightly divided over whether or not Moyes should remain in charge beyond the end of the season, and while Cundy can understand why a change may be necessary, O’Hara believes he deserves a new deal.

Speaking on talkSPORT (2 December, 19:20) O’Hara said: “He deserves a new contract in my opinion.”

Cundy replied saying: “Yeah I can see both sides you know. We speak to a lot of West Ham fans about the style of football, can things improve. But you know what you get in David Moyes. He’s a brilliant manager, he’s a brilliant coach. He’s over-achieved really at West Ham.”

Brilliant coach

West Ham have gone from strength to strength under the management of Moyes both in the Premier League and in Europe, with the obvious highlights being the Europa Conference League win last season and the run to the Europa League semi-final.

Typically, that success in European competitions partnered with impressive displays in the Premier League would be enough for a Hammers boss to earn a new deal, but for one reason or another, there seems to be an idea that a change in the dugout would benefit the Irons.

There is a lot of attacking talent in this West Ham team currently, with the likes of Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen among the most exciting players in the division, with some supporters believing that Moyes’ style doesn’t get the best out of those players.

But the Irons keep winning under the Scotsman and ultimately that is the most important thing in football. As Cundy suggested, you know what you get with Moyes and he has proven he can bring success to the London Stadium.

West Ham may regret rolling the dice on a new boss if they let him leave at the end of his contract.
