West Ham United: James Ward-Prowse wowed by John McGinn after what he’s done at Aston Villa
West Ham ace James Ward-Prowse has named Aston Villa captain John McGinn as the best midfielder he’s seen in the Premier League this season.
In an interview with Sky Sports on Saturday (24 February), the England international said the 29-year-old had a had a “real good impact” at Villa as he’s strong, quick, can pick out a pass and score a goal.
The Hammers midfielder believes the Scotland international is a big reason why Unai Emery’s side are currently where they are in the Premier League table.
Asked who’s the best midfielder he’s seen in the Premier League this season, Ward-Prowse said: “John McGinn has obviously had a real good impact at Aston Villa. You try and tackle him, but he’s strong, he can get away from you, he’s quick, he can pick out a pass and score a goal.
“I think he’s been a real good player for Aston Villa and a big reason why they are where they are. I think you could easily say teams from Man City, but I like these sort of players who are going about their business well.”
James Ward-Prowse one of strongest West Ham performers
It’s a pretty fair reflection from Ward-Prowse on McGinn and quite refreshing to not just hear the same old names from some of the elite clubs.
The Scotsman has been influential in helping his side challenge for a Champions League spot this season and he’s put in some decent performances against West Ham over the years.
Ward-Prowse will be looking for the Hammers’ midfielder to start operating on a similar level after their displays have dipped over the past few weeks.
While the Englishman has been one of the strongest performers since arriving from Southampton last summer, his influence has dropped in the past few matches after being forced to play in different positions.
But the midfielder is by no means the problem as to why our results have dramatically gone downhill as he’ll be as keen as anyone to ensure we pick up over the next few games.
