West Ham United injury news: Doctor issues Vladimir Coufal illness update

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at West Ham...

West Ham defender Vladimir Coufal appears to be back at a 100 per cent now despite an illness earlier in January, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert has reacted to the update the Hammers issued on 7 January claiming that he had recovered from his illness.

Thilo Kehrer, who was still at the club, was also ill at the same time, so there would have been provisions made behind the scenes to curb the spread.

Speaking exclusively with West Ham Zone, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and a Sports Scientist, said:

“The best course of action to prevent the illness would have been initial isolation and then general illness precautions which entails the use of masks, handwashing, etc.

If both he and Thilo Kehrer had the same illness, certainly plausible it spread from one to the other.

However, Coufal has since returned and played 90 minutes too so he seems to be back to 100 per cent.

Coufal did play 90 minutes against Sheffield United on 21 January but ended up getting sent off in the dying stages of the game.

Before that, the Czech Republic international’s last 90 minutes was against Arsenal back in December, which his side won 2-0.

After his suspension, the 31-year-old is expected to return straight back to the playing eleven for the Hammers.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have made a better transfer offer than Barcelona for an international player in January as Tim Steidten gets the ball rolling.
