West Ham United injury news as David Moyes shares Emerson update ahead of Freiburg clash
West Ham United manager David Moyes has confirmed that he still isn’t sure whether Emerson will be fit to feature in the Irons’ Europa League clash with Freiburg.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday (13 March) the Hammers’ boss confirmed that he will have to wait and see how fit the Italian defender is before deciding on his involvement in Thursday’s (14 March) clash.
The Scotsman also confirmed that Maxwel Cornet has returned to first-team training having recovered from his latest injury woe, but the Ivorian winger won’t be fit in time to feature at the London Stadium on Thursday.
As quoted by West Ham’s website (13 March) he said: “We just need to see how Emerson is – that is the main one. Maxwel Cornet is back after receiving treatment, but he won’t make this one.”
Will Emerson be fit for West Ham United Europa League showdown v Freiburg?
It seems as though Emerson may be facing a race against time to feature for the Hammers’ on Thursday night. If he is unable to feature, it would be a huge blow to Moyes’ sides’ hopes as he has been one of their best players this season.
The 29-year-old was withdrawn in the first leg of the tie in Freiburg and missed the Irons’ Premier League draw with Burnley, as Aaron Cresswell made an incredibly rare league start in his place.

While the 34-year-old looked solid enough against Vincent Kompany’s side, he is nowhere near as mobile and dynamic going forward as Emerson. The Italian gives Moyes’ side an extra dimension in possession while impressing without the ball.
It is a boost that Cornet is returning to the fold as the Ivorian winger looked bright against Sheffield United in his only Premier League start of the season. Hopefully, the 27-year-old can rediscover that form and play a big role in the final weeks of the season.
