West Ham United in ‘tough-looking’ Europa League group as ‘European veterans’ claim made

European “veterans” West Ham have a “tough-looking” Europa League group this season, according to BBC Sport.

The East London club have been drawn in Group A of the European competition alongside Olympiakos, Freiburg and TSC.

Their place in the tournament comes after the London Stadium outfit lifted last season’s Europa Conference League trophy.

Under the headline “Hammers becoming European veterans,” BBC Sport noted: “European trips are becoming the norm for West Ham fans these days.

“This will be their third consecutive season in Europe. They reached the semi-finals of the Europa League in 2021-22, when they were knocked out by Eintracht Frankfurt, and then beat Fiorentina last season thanks to a late Jarrod Bowen goal to win the Europa Conference League.

“The Hammers will have to navigate through a pretty tough-looking Group A that features Greek side Olympiakos, Germans Freiburg and Serbians TSC.”

West Ham

Confident

West Ham supporters should be very confident going into their Europa League campaign for more reasons than one.

First and foremost, they are now very experienced in Europe and have enjoyed very successful runs in the Europa League and Conference League, with the latter of course producing an unforgettable experience for everyone associated with the club.

Now back up a level, things will be difficult for the Hammers, but they also now have a strong squad that is capable of battling it out with the likes of Olympiakos, Freiburg and TSC.

Moreover, the East London club have made a superb start to the new season, and should be confident of finishing top of their Europa League group.

However, as the club found out last season, competing successfully on all fronts is no mean feat, so manager David Moyes must make plenty of wise decisions in the dugout over the coming months.

In other West Ham news, a BBC pundit has shared a “top, top manager” verdict on Hammers boss Moyes.
