West Ham United in battle with Atletico Madrid for Roma goalkeeper Robin Olsen
West Ham United face stiff competition for Roma goalkeeper Robin Olsen, with Atletico Madrid and Lille keen, according to AS.
The Sweden international was in fine form during a season-long loan at Everton last season, and his displays for his country at the European Championships have also attracted the Hammers, who’ve “asked about him”.
Roma are looking to sell Olsen this summer, and he is a wanted man, with Real Sociedad also joining West Ham, the La Liga and Lille champions for his signature.
Top goalie
Olsen played as cover for Jordan Pickford at Goodison Park last season, and Atletico want him for the same role.
Clearly, Jan Oblak will always be ahead of him if he moves to Spain, but West Ham could be offering the 31-year-old the chance to play regularly.
Lukasz Fabianski, 36, signed a new one-year deal in March and is very likely entering his last season at the London Stadium.
We need a top replacement, and from what we saw from Olsen last term, he is perfect for the job.
Both Atletico and Sociedad want someone to come in as cover, but the Swede could fancy his chances of pipping Fabianski to the starting spot at West Ham, and we believe that he has everything it takes to.
The Pole has been a faithful servant no doubt, showing no signs of regression, but he has not had someone to properly challenge him since he joined us.
Olsen could be that man ahead of potentially taking over as the first-choice next summer, and the fact that we are offering European football could work in our favour.
