West Ham United hold biggest interest in Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick as club prepare for David Moyes exit

West Ham United hold the biggest interest in appointing Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick as David Moyes’ successor this summer, according to TEAMtalk.

Sunday Mirror revealed on 12 March that the Hammers have earmarked the former Manchester United caretaker manager and player as their next manager to replace Moyes at the end of the season after swiftly transforming Boro into Championship promotion contenders since his appointment in October.

The Hammers are expected to part ways with Moyes this summer according to former Eurosport journalist Dean Jones and TEAMtalk [13 April] have revealed that the East Londoners hold the most interest in Carrick with the likes of Crystal Palace and Leicester City also seeking out his services.

West Ham

“TEAMtalk understands that Carrick is of interest to Leicester City, who parted company with Brendan Rodgers earlier this month and have brought in Dean Smith until the end of the season.

“Crystal Palace, also looking for a new manager for this summer after reinstating Roy Hodgson as a temporary replacement for Patrick Vieira, also like Carrick and have done homework on him.

“But the biggest interest is emerging from his former club West Ham United, who have already decided they are moving on from David Moyes this summer – whether they stay up or not,” as quoted by the report.

Tempting

The prospect of appointing Carrick to replace Moyes is certainly a tempting one considering the outstanding job he’s doing at Middlesbrough currently.

The former Manchester United has made a superb start to his managerial career at the Riverside, winning 16 of his 27 Championship outings so far, and it’s no wonder why the Teesside outfit are top contenders to gain promotion to the Premier League next season.

West Ham

His calm, cool and calculated manner makes him the ideal man to lead West Ham into the new campaign and it is certainly expected that he’ll be at the very top of this supposed shortlist.

However, if he manages to win promotion with Middlesbrough, he may certainly opt to stay and continue his managerial development there rather than taking the risk and setting sail back in East London.

It’s certainly going to be a huge summer for West Ham United, but for now, the primary focus remains on securing their Premier League status for next season. Then they will be able to target the attractive options to eventually replace Moyes, with Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter now also available to the club.
