West Ham United have ‘very little money’ for January as board issue David Moyes challenge

David Moyes has been told by the West Ham board to get the best out of his summer signings, with Claret & Hugh claiming the club has a tiny January budget.

Moyes is under huge pressure to turn things around ofr the Hammers in the second half of the season. West Ham slumped to 16th in the Premier League table after enduring a horrible run of domestic form.

However, if Moyes is to keep his job and salvage the season, he’ll have to do it with the signings he made in the summer.

As reported by Claret & Hugh, the West Ham board have made it clear to him [Moyes] that he has to show those players he bought in the summer are up to the job.

The report adds that: “the Hammers have very little money to spend in this window.”

Signings needed

West Ham desperately need things to turn around when the Premier League resumes later this month. Not only so that Moyes stays on as manager but also because relegation has become a real threat this season.

It’s been frustrating for fans to watch the team play so well in the Europa Conference League but repeatedly get it so wrong domestically.

There’s certainly a case to argue that summer signings Lucas Paqueta, Gianluca Scamacca and Nayef Aguerd all struggled to settle down in east London, and Moyes does need to make sure his summer spree pays off.

However, the Scotsman also desperately needs reinforcing in January due to factors out of his control.

Aguerd has picked up a thigh injury at the World Cup, Kurt Zouma has just undergone surgery and Craig Dawson reportedly wants to move north to be with his family. [The Athletic]

It leaves Moyes with a glaring issue in defence and without any January funding to fix it. Things could go from bad to worse if the management team and the board don’t come together to fix this mess.
