West Ham United: Gianluca Scamacca spotted on pitch ahead of Conference League final

Gianluca Scamacca has been spotted on the pitch with the rest of the West Ham United squad ahead of the Conference League final against Fiorentina.

The Italian has been missing with a knee injury and underwent surgery in his native Italy before returning to the London Stadium.

According to Football London’s Jonty Colman (via Twitter, 7 June), the 24-year-old striker was checking out the pitch in Prague with the rest of his teammates.

“Gianluca Scamacca is here and with the players on the pitch as they come for a pre-match inspection,” he wrote.

Interesting

It’s highly unlikely that Scamacca plays any part tonight. His fitness is still very much up for debate. It’s been an extremely difficult first season for the Italian on the injury front, but his eight-goal return from minimal starts isn’t terrible.

He’s a player who will certainly be looking to improve next season. He’s still adapting to life in the Premier League and could easily find his feet at the London Stadium. He has pace, physicality, quick feet and an explosive shot. The attributes are there, it’s about finding fitness and consistency for the 24-year-old.

Wednesday evening could turn out to be a historic one for West Ham. A major trophy is on the line and it’s up to the players to continue their excellent form in the competition.

David Moyes has to treat this fixture as if it was an earlier round of the competition. The Hammers have been superb in Europe this season and there’s no reason why they cannot get the job done against the Serie A side.
