West Ham United: Gianluca Scamacca injury update shared after surgery
Gianluca Scamacca will be out of action for two to three months after the West Ham United striker underwent surgery on a knee injury, according to Jonty Colman.
The 24-year-old underwent surgery in Rome on Saturday for a meniscus in his right knee, which has seen him miss most of 2023.
Football London’s Colman has since revealed (via Twitter, 18 April) the Italian could now be out for up to three months.
“Gianluca Scamacca is set to be sidelined for 2-3 months after undergoing knee surgery in Rome on Saturday. He had a meniscus in his right knee,” wrote Colman.
Good timing
If West Ham can secure their Premier League status then this could well be good timing. The striker has endured a tough season at the London Stadium and will be hoping for a fresh start. The timing of the injury means he won’t miss any of the 2023/24 campaign, providing he doesn’t suffer a setback.
Furthermore, there’s been talk of Scamacca returning to Italy, but if he’s injured, it’s unlikely there will be many interested parties come the off-season. The pressure will be firmly on the big-money addition come August. He was bought to be a consistent goal threat and for a number of reasons, it just hasn’t worked out.

The Premier League can be a daunting place to play football and it’s clear the Italian is still trying to adjust to the pace and physicality of England’s top flight. He’s previously been extremely prolific in his homeland and could well be like a new signing if he can put his injury woes behind him.
