West Ham United: Gabby Agbonlahor and Alan Brazil share David Moyes sack verdict live on air
West Ham United should offer David Moyes a new contract and back him in the summer transfer window, according to Gabby Agbonlahor and Alan Brazil.
The Scotsman’s current deal at the London Stadium expires at the end of the season and while Moyes has insisted he has been offered a new contract, he has admitted he won’t decide until the end of the campaign.
While a number of pundits and supporters have suggested it may be time for the two parties to go their separate ways, Brazil doesn’t believe the 60-year-old’s performances this term warrant the sack.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday (18 April) he said: “I’ve got down here should Moyes keep his job if they make it through? What is wrong with our production staff, they’re adamant about trying to get people the sack.”
Agbonlahor agreed saying: “You know what I don’t understand about West Ham fans, a lot of them are Moyes in, a lot are Moyes out. He won a European trophy for the club, they’re in eighth position and they can still finish in the top six.
“Everyone relax. Yes, I think they will get knocked out tonight, Leverkusen have been unbeaten all season and they’ll probably go all the way and win the Europa League. Even if they finish where they are now in seventh or eighth, I still think it has been a good season for West Ham.
“Injury problems, they lost Declan Rice, got Kudus who I think is a great player, Bowen who’s a great player, with a couple more signings in the summer they go again. Some of these fans want better football being played, then they bring in a manager who does that and doesn’t get a trophy.
“David Moyes has brought your club a trophy. I don’t get it me, it baffles me.”
Will West Ham United sack David Moyes ahead of Bayer Leverkusen showdown?
While Agbonlahor is right to suggest that Moyes’ record at the London Stadium has been incredibly impressive, especially in Europe, that doesn’t mean that he should be guaranteed a brand new contract ahead of the summer.
The Hammers have impressed both in the Premier League and the Europa League this term, but their performances haven’t shown the attacking prowess that they are capable of considering the talent in their ranks.

There is a general feeling around the supporters that a more youthful and attacking manager could get more out of the likes of Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta, especially in a more possession-based system.
Hopefully, some clarity will emerge over the Scotsman’s situation sooner rather than later as the uncertainty around the London Stadium won’t be good for anybody as they begin to prepare for next season.
