West Ham United final league position predicted by Super Computer ahead of clash v Tottenham

West Ham United will comfortably survive relegation in the Premier League in an updated prediction ahead of the clash against Tottenham, according to The Opta Analyst.

Julen Lopetegui picked up his second win in seven matches for the Hammers with a 4-1 victory against Ipswich Town at the London Stadium before the international break.

The Opta Analyst supercomputer has updated the Premier League predictions, with West Ham predicted to finish twelfth at the end of the season, the position the side currently sits in.

Julen Lopetegui must improve the results at West Ham United

Given the appalling start to life under Lopetegui in East London, a predicted midtable finish, comfortably clear of the relegation zone, is not the worst end result for the Irons.

However, the side was expected to mount a serious push for a European finish this season after a frivolous spending spree throughout the summer saw £150m worth of talent arrive at the club, although the acquisitions have since struggled to adapt to the style of play.

The win against Ipswich felt like a turning point for Lopetegui. He finally claimed his first win at the London Stadium after three consecutive defeats, with the front trio of Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus all getting on the scoresheet.

With a 13.2 per cent chance of a twelfth place finish, the Irons are playing at the level expected this season.

Supporters will be relieved the side is not considered to be threatened by relegation, with just a 1.6 per cent chance of going down.

West Ham fans demanded ambition from the club when David Moyes was dismissed at the end of the season. The decision to appoint Lopetegui has not been fully justified thus far, and with games against Tottenham and Manchester United ahead, the Spaniard must get results to save his job.
