West Ham United fail with late ‘panic buy’ as Deadline Day double deal breaks down spectacularly
West Ham failed with a late deadline day panic buy which may have led to last-gasp exits for Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma breaking down, according to Seb Ecrivain Foot.
The French journalist shared on his personal X account (2 February) that an attacking panic buy on deadline day did not come to fruition for West Ham and there may be a link to the failures of Fornals and Benrahma’s moves.
While Real Betis and Fornals are still awaiting confirmation over their last-gasp transfer (Dharmesh Sheth), Benrahma’s transfer to Lyon hit a last-minute snag after the Hammers failed to submit the required documents on time.
And Seb Ecrivain Foot posted: “After Benrahma, it is Fornals’ deal which is threatened at Betis for the same anomaly!
“West Ham who “accidentally” doesn’t fill out the documents properly for Benrahma and Fornals who are we kidding?
“I spoke to you yesterday about an offensive panic buy for the English club which did not come to fruition. There may be a link there.”
Crazy
It isn’t unheard or unseen to see late moves like this fail at the last hurdle but as the French journalist points out, there may well be a link to West Ham’s panic buy failure and Fornals and Benrahma’s failed moves.
It may look as if Fornals has been denied his dream return to Spain and there’s a case to argue that because West Ham could not sign any players on Deadline Day, they’ve purposely sabotaged this deal to ensure Fornals remains.
The same can be said for Benrahma who now sees a great opportunity to grab a new lease of life elsewhere completely ruined before his eyes.
It remains to be seen whether that is the case as both parties await confirmation on Friday but this is yet another transfer deadline day drama for West Ham.
It was strange seeing Fornals on the sidelines at the London Stadium against Bournemouth when he should really have been in Spain to complete his 11th-hour move.
It’s also suspect that Benrahma had travelled to France well in time to complete his move to Lyon, completing all the necessary routines before a transfer only to find that it failed at the last minute.
West Ham certainly have some questions to answer.
