West Ham United embroiled in 'secret' legal battle as £1billion development emerges
West Ham United are embroiled in a “secret legal battle” with the owners of the London Stadium, according to the Daily Mail.
The Mail claim (26 March) the London Legacy Development Corporation have spent £7million of taxpayers’ money on lawyers during their tussle with the club.
It’s understood a new and secret spat between the LLDC and the club will only add to that figure. It’s believed the fresh disagreement evolves around how much money LLDC are due from an investment in the club by Czech businessman Daniel Kretinsky in November 2021.
It’s also been suggested that taxpayers will end up paying over £1billion for the London Stadium by the end of the decade.
Never-ending
This is a saga which seems to be never-ending and the news of significant taxpayer funding will not go down well. The board should be hell-bent on this reaching an amicable conclusion as soon as possible.

On the whole, the move to the London Stadium has been a commercial success for the Hammers, and they won’t want that to be tarnished by an ongoing legal spat with the LLDC. West Ham fans had their reservations before their move from Upton Park but, overall, the move has been a success.
With this ongoing legal battle now rumbling in the background, it’s absolutely essential the club secures its Premier League status. The prospect of relegation cannot be contemplated. Championship football running alongside a multi-million-pound legal battle would be a financial disaster.
The onus and pressure is firmly on David Moyes to finally get a consistent tune out of his side heading into the latter stages of the 2022/23 season.
