West Ham United: Sky Sports presenter reacts to David Moyes clip live on air, ‘Oh goodness’

Sky Sports News presenter Rob Wotton said he could fully understand the frustration showed by David Moyes following the draw between West Ham and Aston Villa.

Moyes was clearly annoyed at his post-match press conference when repeatedly asked about VAR, shortly after Tomas Soucek had a late winner ruled out against the Villans.

The Scotsman had to hold back from saying what he clearly wanted to truly say following Sunday’s (17 March) contest given the risk of being hit with a fine.

After footage of Moyes’ presser was shown, Wotton responded [18 March, 10:44am]: “Oh goodness. I can understand his frustration.

“You’ve got to give credit to Moyes there, because I don’t think what was coming out of his mouth was quite what he was feeling in his heart.

“Because of fines and sanctions, he couldn’t say what he wanted to say.”

David Moyes holds back with VAR comments after Aston Villa draw

VAR reached the stage of killing the enjoyment of the game long before this draw with Aston Villa.

For some reason, the authorities seem hell-bent on sticking with it despite its numerous shortcomings.

The biggest issue at London Stadium was the time it took to chalk off Soucek’s strike, and how little communication there was with supporters.

VAR was introduced to overrule clear and obvious errors, such as the wrong player being dismissed or a player clearly offside when scoring, say.

Nobody called for lines to be drawn to see if a player is a centimetre offside, or for a five-minute stoppage to see if the ball hit Soucek’s arm.

It would also be nice to hear managers go off on one with no risk of being fined for their comments.

Unfortunately, Moyes had to bite his tongue and West Ham fans have to stew on this draw for the next couple of weeks.
