West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd hailed ‘phenomenal’ as Morocco win v Belgium
West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd has produced a scintillating performance as Morocco caused a big upset today (Sunday, 27 November) by beating Belgium 2-0 in the World Cup.
Award-winning journalist, Lorenz Kohler, who works for IDiskitimes, has hailed the defender as “phenomenal” on Twitter, as Morocco secured an “incredible” victory against the second-ranked team in the world.
Aguerd was outstanding for Morocco and the performance reminded everyone what a signing he could turn out to be for the Hammers.
“Boufal, Ziyech and Aguerd have been phenomenal. Incredible from Morocco against the second ranked nation in world football,” wrote Kohler on Twitter.
What a player
A host of clubs were interested in signing Aguerd from Rennes in the summer, but West Ham secured his signature by paying £30m [Sky Sports].
The Moroccan defender was ruled out of action after he injured himself during the pre-season friendly against Rangers.
He spent three months on the sidelines and had surgery on his ankle to speed up his recovery. It was feared that he will miss the World Cup.

However, he eventually managed to make a comeback. He made his debut for the Hammers on October 27 in a Europa Conference League game against Silkeborg at the London Stadium where he produced a fantastic performance.
David Moyes and all the Hammers fans will be thrilled by this performance from Aguerd. If he remains fit, he could be a massive player for the club in the second half of the campaign.
He made one tackle, one interception, and two clearances, as per Who scored, against Belgium, but his overall contribution caught the attention.
